Colour Analysis for Grey Hair
Grey hair doesn't always change your colour season — but it can shift your sub-season. Here's what changes, what doesn't, and when to refresh.

If you've embraced grey or silver hair, you may have noticed certain clothing colours don't pop the way they used to. Here's why — and how to adapt.
Does grey hair change your season?
Your underlying season stays the same, but your palette typically softens within that season as you go grey. It's worth getting your colour analysis redone — especially if you have more red in your skin or more grey in your hair.
Why contrast matters
Going from chocolate brown hair to silver dramatically lowers the contrast between your hair and skin. High-contrast outfits (black + white) can now overwhelm; medium contrast works better.
What to add and remove
- Add — softer, more tonal colour combinations
- Remove — anything that was working because of the dark hair
- Add — cool undertones if your grey is silver/blue
- Remove — warm yellows if grey has dulled your natural warmth
When to refresh
Once your grey is 60%+ of your hair. A 30-minute refresh session is usually enough to update the previous palette rather than redo it from scratch.
Frequently asked questions
Should I go back to coloured hair to keep my palette?
Only if you want to — most clients find their grey just means small palette tweaks rather than reverting.
Will going blonder change my season?
No — it changes your contrast level and surface look, but not your underlying undertones.
